Destination Desert: After a 6-3 loss on Saturday in Tucson, the Barracuda wrap up their road trip and season series with the Roadrunners on Sunday at the Tucson Convention Center. The Barracuda are 1-2 versus Utah’s affiliate this season.

Saturday Shambles: The Barracuda fell behind by three goals in the first period on Saturday night at the Tucson Convention Center, and despite getting back within a goal in the third, would fall 6-3 to the Roadrunners. In the loss, Andrew Poturalski and Rem Pitlick scored on the power play and Colin White made it three goals in his last two games. Danil Gushchin also finished with three assists. Former Barracuda captain Andrew Agozzino scored a hat trick, the fifth given up by the Cuda this season.

Powering Up: The Barracuda went two-for-seven on the power play on Saturday and have now gone six-for-18 (33%) on their current road trip, potting a pair of power-play goals in each game. San Jose is pacing the AHL on the man advantage (23.3%) and rank second in the league in road power-play percentage (23.1%). In three games versus the Roadrunners, SJB is four-for-13 (30%). SJB is one of just two teams (Toronto) with multiple players that have more than nine power-play goals and the only club with three (Luca Cagnoni Danil Gushchin, and Andrew Poturalski).

Roadrunners Roundup: Entering Sunday, the Roadrunners sit in the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division, two points ahead of the Bakersfield Condors. Tucson snapped its three-game skid on Saturday with a win over the Barracuda and are now within four points of SJ. The Roadrunners have three former Barracuda players on their current roster (Andrew Agozzino, Montana Onyebuchi, and Robbie Russo).

Captain Call-Up: The Sharks recalled Barracuda captain Jimmy Schuldt on Monday. The veteran rearguard has now skated in four games this season with the Sharks, drawing in on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Prior to making his Sharks debut on March 6 at Colorado, it had been nearly six years since he played his only other NHL game on April 6, 2019, with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Hot Pot: Andrew Poturalski collected his team-leading 26th goal of the year on Saturday and 10th on the power play, setting a new franchise record for points in a season (62). The nine-year vet is pacing the AHL in scoring and is T-third in assists (37) and power-play goals (10), and T-fourth in goals (25). The New Hampshire alumni has points in 15 of his last 18 (10+16=26) and is a goal shy of Andrew Agozzino’s Barracuda single-season goal record (26), set in 2022-23. Additionally, he is one power-play goal short of matching Danny O’Regan’s single-season PPG record (11), set in 2016-17.

Luca Lightning: Rookie defenseman Luca Cagnoni collected a pair of power-play assists on Saturday and is now pacing the AHL in PP-points (29), is second in power-play helpers (20), and T-fourth in power-play goals (9). Among league blueliners, he is T-second in points (44), and goals (13). The 20-year-old, who has already set a franchise record this season for power-play goals (9) by a defenseman, is just one goal shy of matching the org’s watermark for goals in a season by a rearguard which was set by Tim Heed in 2016-17 and Nick DeSimone in 2018-19.

Dan the Man: Danil Gushchin picked up three assists on Saturday, matching a personal best for apples in a game. The third-year pro has five points (1+4=5) in his last three outings and points in seven of his last eight (6+5=11). Over his last 15 games, he has 11 goals and seven assists.
