'CUDA FALL TO CONDORS IN REGULAR-SEASON FINALE
Apr 15, 2017
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. - The San Jose Barracuda (43-16-4-5) suffered their second consecutive overtime loss, 3-2, on Saturday night against the Bakersfield Condors at Rabobank Arena (32-29-5-1). San Jose's defeat (.699) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's (.704) win means the Barracuda finish the regular season with the league's second-best winning percentage.
After a scoreless first, San Jose broke the deadlock on a perfect tic-tac-toe from Julius Bergman to Danny O'Regan and finished off by Buddy Robinson (17) with a backdoor tap-in goal at 1:42. Bakersfield took a too many men penalty at 7:27, but tied the game as Josh Currie (20) toe-dragged his way around Tim Heed in the slot and chipped a shot under Troy Grosenick's right arm at 7:27.
In the third, after a d-zone turnover by San Jose, Currie (21) ripped a shot past Grosenick at 1:20 to give the Condors their first lead. 27 seconds later, Noah Rod dropped a pass to Nick Desimone (1) who fired the puck top-shelf far side to even the score, on Desimone's first pro goal.
After both teams had failed to score in the remainder of the third, Currie completed the hat trick at 1:25 of overtime to secure the win for Bakersfield, 3-2.
Grosenick (30-11-4) took the loss after allowing three goals on 15 shots, and Nick Ellis (16-12-2) claimed the win by making 35 saves on 37 shots.
