BARRACUDA SPLASH MOOSE, 6-3

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - Clarke Saunders made 32 saves in his AHL debut, and the San Jose Barracuda (41-14-2-5) found the back of the net six times to top the Manitoba Moose (25-35-4-5), 6-3, at SAP Center on Saturday night.
 

San Jose failed to score on back-to-back power plays in the first but did its damage at full strength late in the period. Buddy Robinson (14) opened up the scoring at 17:58 as he jammed a loose puck through the five-hole of a sprawled out Jamie Phillips and Ryan Carpenter added to the Barracuda advantage on San Jose's 21st shot of the frame at 19:54. After Phillips had failed to seal off the right post, Carpenter lifted the puck over the netminder's right pad.
 
In the second period, Kevin Czuczman (8) fired a shot from the left point on the power that whistled over the right shoulder of Saunders to get the Moose within one at 3:19. The Barracuda countered on their man advantage at 6:29 after Barclay Goodrow found Joakim Ryan (10) open in the high slot, Ryan wristed a shot top shelf.  The Moose cut the lead back down to one on its third power play after Ryan blocked a shot in the slot the rebound redirected right to Dan DeSalvo who fired the puck into an open net at the 14-minute mark.
 
In the third, Tim Heed's wrister from the right point bounced of Zack Stortini (3) before trickling into the open net at 3:27. 50 seconds later, Kyle Connor (23) fired a rebound past Saunders from the right wing to get the Moose back within one on the power play. Rourke Chartier (17) regained San Jose's two-goal lead at 16:47 and John McCarthy (18) sealed the win with an empty-netter at 19:08.
 
Saunders earned the win (1-0-0) after making 32 saves on 35 shots, while Phillips (1-4-1) was charged with the loss after allowing five goals on 41 shots.
