Gulls Sink Barracuda 5-0
Dec 12, 2015SAN JOSE, CA –The San Jose Barracuda (9-9-0-3, 21pts) presented by Barracuda Networks completed their five game home stand with a 5-0 loss to the visiting San Diego Gulls (12-10-0-1, 25pts) in front of 4,178 fans at the SAP Center on Saturday afternoon. The Barracuda are back in action on Sunday, December 13 at 3pm in Ontario, CA vs. the Reign.
Five different skaters scored for San Diego while Matt Hackett made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season for the Gulls. Aaron Dell allowed three goals on six shots in just 5:42 of action before he was replaced by Troy Grosenick in net for the Barracuda. The Gulls snapped their three game losing skid and are now 4-0-0-0 at the SAP Center this season.
The Gulls scored three goals on six shots in the opening six minutes of the first period to charge out to a 3-0 lead. Max Friberg (5th) scored on a flukey goal just 33 seconds into the contest as he swung the puck from the end wall and banked it off the blocker of Aaron Dell and into the net. Tough guy Brian McGrattan (4th) and Mike Sgarbossa (4th) each scored on rebound chances soon after as San Diego took a 3-0 lead just 5:42 into the hockey game. Troy Grosenick replaced Aaron Dell after the third goal as San Jose trailed by three goals after the first period.
Neither team scored in the second period as San Jose outshot San Diego 14-7 in the middle frame as goaltender Matt Hackett stood tall. Shots were 24-19 Barracuda through 40 minutes of play.
San Diego scored twice in the third period as Stefan Noesen (1st) deflected a centering feed through the pads of Grosenick just 59 seconds into the final frame. Jiri Sekac (1st) ended the scoring at 12:05 to give San Diego the 5-0 road victory.

Scott Timmins (inj), Patrick McNally, Frazer McLaren and Alex Gallant did not dress for the Barracuda… forward Ben Smith made his Barracuda debut as he was loaned by the Sharks on Friday on a conditioning assignment…the Barracuda finished with a 3-2-0-0 on their five game home stand…. The game saw only three minor penalties called – all in the first period… Jeremy Langlois had five shots on goal.
