Grosenick blanks the Gulls 3-0, again
Dec 11, 2016
San Jose, Calif. -- Troy Grosenick made 26 saves to earn the San Jose Barracuda (10-6-0-3) their second straight shutout, 3-0, over the San Diego Gulls (11-8-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at SAP Center.
Grosenick's (5-4-1) shutout steak is now up to 159 minutes and 44 seconds since returning from injury and the fourth-year pro has stopped his last 64 straight shots.
Each team hit a post in the first period on Sunday, but neither team could find the back of the net in the first despite San Jose putting 16 shots on Kevin Boyle.
In the second, the Barracuda finally broke the ice. Tim Heed's shot from the point was tipped on goal and then slid off of both posts and in by Rourke Chartier (6) at 11:58. Ryan Carpenter (3) extended San Jose's lead to 2-0 on the power play as he rifled a shot off the crossbar at 14:17.
In the third, Timo Meier (9) gave San Jose all it needed at 12:51 after a give-and-go with Danny' O'Regan resulted in Meier chipping the puck past Boyle from the crease.
Boyle (1-1-0) suffered his first AHL loss by allowing three goals on 43 shots.
