Knight Light: On Sunday, the Barracuda close out their eight-game season series with the Henderson Silver Knights, top affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights. After Saturday’s 4-1 win, the Barracuda are now 5-1-0-1 against HSK and 2-0-0-1 at home.
Saturday Shutdown: In front of a sold-out Tech CU Arena on Saturday night, the Barracuda rolled past the red-hot Silver Knights, 4-1. With the win, the Barracuda avoided dropping their third consecutive game at home for the first time this season and improved to 15-10-0-1 when coming off a loss. Thomas Bordeleau (1+1=2), Andrew Poturalski (1+1=2), and Donovan Houle (0+2=2) all finished with multiple points and Gabe Carriere made 25 saves, including 15 in the final 20 minutes, to pick up his fifth win of the year.
Hot Pot: AHL All-Star Andrew Poturalski collected his 15th multi-point outing (1+1=2) of the year on Saturday and is now pacing the AHL in scoring with 53 points. The veteran forward has points in 11 of 13 (7+10=17) and is now T-5th in the league in goals (22) and T-third in assists (31) and T-fourth in power-play goals (9). In six games against the Knights this season, he has a team-high five goals.
Luca Lightning: Rookie defenseman Luca Cagnoni is pacing the AHL in power-play points (26), ranks second in power-play assists (17), and is T-fourth in power-play goals (9). Among league blueliners, he is first in power-play points and assists, second in goals (13) and power-play goals, and T-fourth in points (38). In seven games versus the Knights, he has three goals and an assist.
Bords Boiling: Thomas Bordeleau collected a pair of points (1+1=2) on Saturday and now has goals in his last two games, three in his previous four, four in his last six, and five in his last eight. Over the last 10 games, the third-year pro has 11 points (6+5=11) and is averaging just under a point-per-game since November.
Henderson Heating Up: Prior to Saturday, the Knights had won their last two games and were 8-2 over their last 10, and 13-4 in their last 17. Goaltender Carl Lindbom had his seven-game winning streak snapped on Saturday but has still won 10 of 12. The Knights finished February with a 2-1 win over Coachella Valley on Wednesday, going 9-2 in the month. Entering Sunday, the Knights are nine points outside of the last playoff spot with 18 games left.
Cuda Killer: Vegas native Gage Quinney has 34 points (13+21=34) in 30 career games versus the Barracuda. Quinney is pacing the Knights in points versus the Barracuda this year with six (1+5=6) in seven outings. The 29-year-old is first on the Knights in scoring (31) and second in assists (23) and power-play goals (4). Quinney’s dad, Ken, played five seasons for the IHL’s Las Vegas Thunder from 1993-1998.
