Gull Setting: The Barracuda continue their five-game homestand on Wednesday as they face the San Diego Gulls for the first time this year. The Barracuda have won four in a row against San Diego at home entering Wednesday.
Sunday Funday: The Barracuda snapped a three-game skid on Sunday and a 12-game winless drought against the Colorado Eagles with a 5-3 victory at Tech CU Arena. Tristen Robins finished with a game-high three points (2+1=3) and Andrew Poturalski collected a pair of points (1+1=2), extending his goal streak to three games (4). Georgi Romanov made 31 saves en-route to his second W of the year. The Barracuda are now 7-0 this season when scoring first and have a 4-1 record at home. A year ago, it took the Barracuda until Dec. 8 to reach four wins on home ice (13 games).
Do the Cagn Cagn: Rookie defenseman Luca Cagnoni extended his assist streak to three games on Sunday and now has points in eight of his last nine (4+6=10). Among AHL defenders, the 19-year-old is T-first in goals (4) and points (10). A year ago, the native of Burnaby, BC, led Western Hockey League (WHL) defensemen with 90 points and 72 assists and finished tied for third among the group with 18 goals in 65 games with the Portland Winterhawks, earning U.S. Division First All-Star Team recognition. He was the first WHL blueliner since 1993-94 to reach the 90-point threshold and finished nine points clear of the next-closest defenseman in the positional scoring race.
Hot Pot: Former San Diego Gulls center Andrew Poturalski scored on Sunday and added an assist, marking his third consecutive game with at least one goal and multiple points. Poturalksi is pacing the Barracuda in goals (7) and ranks T-fourth in the league. He has scored a power-play goal in his last three contests and is now T-second in the AHL in PPG’s. The 30-year-old is just one game shy of matching his career-long goal streak of four games which he set from 1/8/22 to 1/14/22. The Sharks signed the two-time Calder Cup Champion to a two-year contract in July. The veteran spent two seasons with the Gulls from 2019-21, totaling 50 (11+39=50) points in 61 games. As a member of SD in 2020-21, he led the AHL in points (43) and assists (34) during a shortened season.
Calling Collin: Rookie forward Collin Graf was named the AHL’s Rookie of the Month for October after collecting points in each of his first seven games in the AHL (3+7=10). The undrafted free-agent signee of the Sharks is leading the Barracuda in points (14) and assists (10). On Sunday, he picked up a helper and now ranks T-third in the AHL in points and assists. Graf enters Wednesday riding a three-game point streak (1+3=4) and has collected a point in all but one game this season.
RoboCop: Tristen Robins recorded three points (2+1=3) on Sunday, notching the Barracuda’s fourth and fifth goals in the third period. The first of his two turned out to be the game-winner in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Eagles. After collecting three points (1+2=3) in his first two games of the season, Robins missed seven in a row due to injury from Oct. 19 to Nov. 3. He now has six points (3+3=6) through his first four games. A year ago, he missed the first two months of the season with an ankle injury and it took him 21 games to collect six points.
