Jose vs. Diego: On Tuesday, the Barracuda and San Diego Gulls connect for the first of four meetings on the season series. A year ago, the Barracuda went 3-1 against the Ducks affiliate, outscoring them 9-0 in games at Tech CU Arena. All time, the Barracuda are 27-33-6-3 and 15-16-1-2 at home against the Gulls.

Sunday Scaries: The Barracuda erased a two-goal deficit on Sunday against the Colorado Eagles at Tech CU Arena after Bradley Marek scored late in the second and Thomas Bordeleau tied the score halfway through the third. But in OT, at 1:07, Eagles forward Cal Burke managed to fire in an end-wall carom during a delayed penalty to secure the weekend sweep of the Barracuda, 3-2. After the loss, San Jose has now dropped back-to-back games and are 1-2-1-0 during their season-long seven-game homestand. The Barracuda’s four OT losses is the most in the league.

San Diego Suffering: The Gulls enter Tuesday winless in 11 (0-8-3-0) after beginning the season 2-0. San Diego ranks 27th in the AHL in goals for (2.54), 28th in goals against (3.77), 29th in shots for (26.8), 32nd in shots against (35.00), and 28th (76.3%) on the penalty kill. The Gulls do boast the seventh-best power play (20.9%) in the AHL and have power-play goals in four of their last five games. San Diego is coming off a 1-0 loss on Saturday at home against the Charlotte Checkers and are now 0-3-3-0 in one-goal games. A season ago, the Gulls finished with just 42 points (20-49-2-1 = .299) which was the fewest in the league and ranked last in the AHL in goals for (2.50) and goals against (3.90).

Cap is Back: Andrew Agozzino, who served as the Barracuda’s captain in 2022-23, returns to Tech CU Arena on Tuesday for the first time since being traded to the Ducks this summer. Last season, Agozzino set franchise records in goals (26) and points (61). Additionally, he led the club in assists (35), power-play assists (13), T-first in shorthanded goals (2), and T-second in game-winning goals (3).  Agozzino, who is in his second stint with the Ducks org, enters Tuesday third on the Gulls in points (9) and second in assists, but has been held goalless in his last 11.

Gush Goin’: The Sharks assigned forward Danil Gushchin back to the AHL on Friday morning after collecting one assist in two games up top. The sophomore forward is pacing the Barracuda in points (13), points-per-game (1.08), shots (51), T-first in assists (9), and T-second in goals (4). A year ago, as a rookie, he ranked first among league freshmen in shots (203), T-11th in goals (22), T-13th in points (45), T-10th in power-play goals (7), and 16th in shootout percentage (4/7=57.1%).

Cuda Connection: Former Barracuda forward Andrew Agozzino, defenseman Trevor Carrick and goaltender Alex Stalock are all current members of the Gulls. Carrick, who played for the Barracuda in 2019-20, is leading the Gulls in scoring (11), assists (9) and points-per-game (.85). Among league defensemen, Carrick is T-4th in points and assists.
