Reef Return: On Wednesday, the Barracuda return home and welcome the Bakersfield Condors to Tech CU Arena, kicking off a four-game homestand. Before Wednesday, the Barracuda had played six of seven away from home, going 2-5 during the stretch. The Cuda are 2-2-1-0 against the Oilers’ affiliate this season, and 1-1 at home, picking up a 4-3 win in the last matchup at Mechanics Bank Arena on Feb. 15.

 

Sunday Scaries: The Barracuda closed their two-game road trip on Sunday in Coachella Valley, falling 5-3 to the Firebirds. In the loss, the Barracuda gave up a pair of goals in the opening five and a half minutes, including a goal just 48 seconds into the game, and could not recover. Danil Gushchin, Andrew Poturalski, and Colin White scored for San Jose while Aaron Dell, in his first action since mid-January, made 26 saves.

 

Bakersfield Blues: The Condors enter Wednesday having dropped its last six (0-4-1-1) and seven of eight (1-5-1-1). Bako, who sits three points outside of a playoff spot with 24 games to go, have allowed at least four goals in their last five games. The Oilers’ affiliate boasts the AHL’s 31st-ranked power play (14.8%) and are 23rd in goals for (2.94) and 25th in goals against (3.25).

 

Hot Pot: AHL All-Star Andrew Poturalski buried his 21st goal of the year on Sunday and is now up to a league-high 51 points. With the goal, the veteran forward has points in his last five (3+3=6) and 10 of 11 (6+9=15). He is fifth in the AHL in goals, and fourth in assists (30) and power-play goals (9). In five games against the Condors this season, the 31-year-old has six points (3+3=6).

    

Luca Lightning: Rookie defenseman Luca Cagnoni is pacing the AHL in power-play points (25), ranks second in power-play assists (16), and T-fourth in power-play goals (9). Among league blueliners, he is first in power-play points and assists, second in goals (13) and power-play goals, and T-third in points (36).

 

Cuda Killer: Condors captain Seth Griffith has 42 points (20+22=42) in 38 career games versus the Barracuda. The 12th-year pro is in his fifth season with Bakersfield. Entering Saturday, Griffith is pacing the Condors in points (47), goals (16), points-per-game (1.00), shooting percentage (25.8%), assists (31) and power-play assists (12). The native of Walaceburg, Ontario, has points in nine of his last 10 (3+10=13) and is coming off a two-point performance (1+1=2) on Saturday in San Diego.

 

White Hot: Barracuda forward Colin White will skate in his 100th AHL game on Wednesday. The 28-year-old is in his first season with the Sharks org, originally signing an AHL contract with the Barracuda on Aug. 13, 2024. On Jan. 25, the Sharks inked the former first-round pick of the Ottawa Senators to a one-year, two-way contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Along with his 27 games with the Barracuda, he has also appeared in three games with the Sharks. During his eight-year career, the Boston College alum has appeared in 323 NHL games with the Senators, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, and Sharks, totaling 44 goals, 69 assists, and 107 penalty minutes.
