Battling Bakersfield: After going winless during its five-game road trip that concluded in Abbotsford last Tuesday and Wednesday, the Barracuda return home to Tech CU Arena to begin a four-game homestand, taking on the Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers) for the third time on the eight-game season series. The Barracuda are 2-0 against the Condors this season, collecting a 3-1 win in the last meeting on Dec. 11 in San Jose.

 

About Bako: The Condors enter Tuesday with just three wins in its last 15 games (3-12-0-0) and sit at ninth in the Pacific Division. Bakersfield wraps up a five-game road trip on Tuesday that began in San Jose on Dec. 11, going 1-3 on the roadie so far. Over its last seven road games, the Condors have just one win. Bakersfield ranks 29th in the league in goals for (2.65), 18th in goals against (3.41), 30th on the power play (14.1), 22nd on the penalty kill (76.9).

 

Tough Times: After beginning December 2-0, the Barracuda have just one win over its last seven games, allowing five goals per game during the stretch and have dropped five in a row. The Barracuda rank 27th in the league in goals (2.69) and 25th in goals against (3.41). Since beating the Tucson Roadrunners 6-0 on Nov. 20, the Barracuda have given up the first goal in 13 of its last 14, going 5-9 during the stretch.

 

Spiky Fish: The Barracuda rank second in the AHL in penalty minutes per game (19.38) and majors (20) and are first in minor penalties (171). Jeff Viel is second in the AHL in minors (19), third in penalty minutes (78), and T-fourth in majors (4). 

 

Rookie Arrivals: Rookie forward Thomas Bordeleau is pacing all AHL freshman in goals (13), T-second in power-play goals (5), power-play points (11), and T-third in points (20), and shots (69). Fellow rookie William Eklund is T-second among first-year players in points (21). Bordeleau (12), Tristen Robins (9), Eklund (8), Danil Gushchin (8), Brandon Coe (3), and Ozzy Wiesblatt (1) have accounted for 39 of the Barracuda’s 76 goals scored (51%), the most among any rookie class this season. Wiesblatt (Rd 1, 31st overall), Bordeleau (Rd 2, 38th Overall), Robins (Rd 2, 56th Overall), Gushchin (Rd 3, 76th Overall), and Coe (Rd 4, 98th Overall) were all part of the Sharks' historic nine-forward draft class in 2020.
