Home Sweet Home: The Barracuda wrap up the home portion of their 2021 schedule on Monday with the final meeting of 10 against the Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers). The Barracuda are 3-3-2-1 against the Condors this season and are coming off a 4-2 win in the last matchup against Bakersfield on April 27 at Solar4America Ice.
Top of Their Class: Condors forwards Cooper Marody (19+13=32) and Tyler Benson (10+22=32) ranked T-second in the AHL in scoring entering Monday. Marody is first in the league in goals, hat-tricks (2), and second in plus/minus (+20) while Benson is third in assists and T-fourth in plus/minus (+18). In nine games against San Jose in 2021, Marody has 10 points (5+5=10).
Sasha Sizzling: On Friday, Sasha Chmelevski recorded the first four-point (2+2=6) game of his career and the first multi-power-play goal game of his career. Chmelevski also picked up three points on Tuesday (1+2=3) against the Condors . The Huntington Beach native is tied for third on the team in points (8+10=18) and tied for first in power-play goals (3).
Kellman Killing It: Joel Kellman picked up a franchise single-game best five points on Friday and before Saturday had seven points (4+3=7) over his last two games. Kellman is tied for third on the team in points (7+11=18) despite playing in just 18 games.
Russo Rolling: Barracuda defenseman Robbie Russo recorded a franchise single-game best four assists on Friday. Russo now leads the Barracuda in assists (13) and power-play assists (7). All four of Russo’s helpers on Friday came on the power-play.
Mighty Mel: Barracuda goaltender Alexei Melnichuk enters Monday having won a career-best three-straight games and five of his last six. Melnichuk is now above .500 (7-6-3) for the first time this season. Melnichuk made 22 saves last Tuesday in a 4-2 win over Bakersfield and is now 1-2 against Bakersfield this season.
Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy, Oi Oi Oi: After skating in 23 games with the Prince Albert Raiders and totaling 28 points (7+21=28), Ozzy Wiesblatt is expected to return to the Barracuda lineup on Monday. The Sharks selected the 18-year-old 31st overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Wiesblatt began the season in the AHL where he appeared in three games with the Barracuda and scored his first pro goal on Feb. 13 at Texas.
