Setting Saturday: The Barracuda close out their three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon with the second of back-to-back games against the Abbotsford Canucks (Vancouver Canucks). After Friday’s 5-4 SOL, all three games versus the Canucks this season have been decided by just one goal. The Barracuda are 1-1-0-1 in three games against Vancouver’s affiliate this year and 7-10-1-1 all time. In nine career games against the Canucks at home, the Barracuda are 2-5-1-1.

 

Last Meeting: Both the Barracuda and Canucks each led by a goal on multiple occasions on Friday, but ultimately Abbotsford would claim two points in a 5-4 shootout win. In the loss, the Barracuda got goals from Thomas Bordeleau (PP), Tanner Kaspick, Anthony Vincent (SH) and Jack Studnicka and put 44 shots on net, including six in overtime but failed to beat Nikita Tolopilo in the extra session or shootout. After the loss, the Barracuda are just 1-9 this season when the game has gone beyond 60 minutes.

 

Cuda Check: The Barracuda enter Friday seven points out of a playoff spot, with a game in hand on the Henderson Silver Knights. Friday marks the 51st game on the 72-game schedule. SJ is 4-4-1-1 in its last 10 and 4-5-0-1 in its last 10 at home. The Cuda have scored seven power-play goals in its last three games and now rank 13th in the league on the advantage (19.4) and ninth in goals for (3.22), but 31st on the penalty kill (75.2) and 32nd in goals against (3.59).

  

Todd’s Time: Forward Nathan Todd collected an assist on Friday and now has six points in his last three games (2+4=6). Since recording just one goal in his first 15 games with SJ, Todd has potted 15 in his last 34 outings and is averaging over a point-per-game during that stretch (14+20=36). The Kemptville, Ontario, native is first on the team in goals (16), points (40), power-play goals (5), power-play assists (11) and second in shots (121), and assists (25).

 

Coles Notes: Barracuda forward Cole Cassels collected a pair of assists on Wednesday and now has points in eight of 10 (2+9=11) and nine of 12 (3+10=13). Cassels is currently pacing the SJB in helpers (30) and is third in points (37). Additionally, he is first among Cuda forwards in plus/minus (+10).

 

About Abby: The Canucks have won three in a row entering Saturday but are just 5-4-1-0 over its last 10 and 4-3-1-2 in its last 10 on the road. The Canucks sit at the fifth spot in the Pacific Division, three points behind the fourth-seeded Calgary Wranglers and 14 points ahead of the Barracuda. Abbotsford ranks 31st in the league on the power play (13.7) but second on the penalty kill (85.5).
