Colorado Connection: On Saturday, the Barracuda close out their five-game road trip in Colorado with the first of back-to-back games against the Colorado Eagles (Colorado Avalanche). The Barracuda are 0-1-1-0 against the Eagles this season and dating back to the 2021-22 campaign have dropped five consecutive outings at Blue Arena. Prior to its recent skid, the Barracuda had won three in a row in Loveland. Entering Saturday, the Barracuda have dropped a season-long seven games (0-5-2-0) and five in a row on the road (0-3-2-0) after consecutive losses in Charlotte earlier this week.
Wednesday Wrap: The Barracuda and Charlotte Checkers each put 34 shots on net on Wednesday night at the Bojangles Coliseum, but the Checkers would pick up a 4-1 win behind a stellar goaltending performance from former Panthers’ top pick Spencer Knight. Tristen Robins buried his second goal in as many nights to cut the lead to 2-1 in the second, but the Barracuda failed to beat Knight again.
A Star is Born: Danil Gushchin was named the Barracuda’s representative for the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Tech CU when the league announced the rosters earlier this month. The two-day event will be held at Tech CU Arena in San Jose on Feb. 4-5, 2024. The second-year pro is first on the Barracuda in points (32), goals (12), assists (20), and shots (130). Gushchin joins Thomas Bordeleau, Joachim Blichfeld, Jake Middleton, Francis Perron, Josef Korenar, Barclay Goodrow, Ryan Carpenter, Troy Grosenick, Danny O’Regan, Antoine Bibeau, and Rudolfs Balcers as players to represent the Barracuda at the AHL All-Star Classic.
Eagle Eye: After falling 4-2 on Wednesday at home against the Bakersfield Condors, the Eagles continue their six-game homestand on Saturday. Colorado is 2-2 during its current home stretch and 3-7 over its last 10 home games. The Eagles rank 28th in the AHL in goals for (2.71) and 29th on the power play (16.1%). Colorado was shutout in three consecutive games from Jan. 5 to Jan. 12 and have scored 2+ goal in just one of its last six contests.
