Saturday marks the third meeting on the 10-game series and the first matchup at the Mechanics Bank Arena since opening night on Oct. 17 (0-1 L). The Condors enter Saturday riding the longest current point streak in the Western Conference at seven games (5-0-2-1). The Condors were forced to postopone its game on Friday due to COVID protocols.
About Friday Night: The San Jose Barracuda potted a five-on-five, power-play, and shorthanded goal and got 28 saves from Sam Harvey to shutout the Tucson Roadrunners, 3-0, at the SAP Center on Friday night. For the Barracuda it was their second shutout win of the year and first-ever against Tucson.
Condors Check: Bakersfield sits at fifth in the Pacific Division and seventh overall in the Western Conference. They are currently riding a three-game winning streak after a 4-0 shutout win over the Abbotsford Canucks. Seth Griffith leads the team in points (26), assists (18), and power-play goals (5) in 23 games played this year. He is currently riding a five-game point streak (2+6=8) and has two points (1+1=2) in two games played against the Barracuda this year. 800 for Sommer: After last Saturday’s win, Head Coach Roy Sommer now sits at 800 career victories in his 24-year AHL coaching career. The Oakland, Calif., native has been behind the bench for 1,702 games in the AHL, going 801-695-48-160 (W-L-T-OTL/SOL) over that span. During the 2015-16 season, the Barracuda’s first in San Jose, Sommer surpassed Fred “Bun” Cook (636 wins) for the most wins in AHL history, notching a 4-2 victory on Feb. 10, 2016, over Ontario. Reedy Rolling: Forward Scott Reedy, who has rejoined the Barracuda on Friday after a three-game stint with the Sharks, leads the AHL with nine-power-play goals, and amongst rookies, he sits at first in goals (16) and is tied for fourth in total points (25). Reedy has goals in three-straight games.
Killing it: The Barracuda went a perfect five-for-five on the penalty kill on Friday, just the seventh time this season that the club didn’t allow a goal while down a man. John Leonard also notched his second shorthanded goal over the last week and the team’s AHL-best eighth of the season. The Barracuda is 7-3-1 this year when they win the special teams battle.
