Four Power Play Goals Power Barracuda To 7-1 Win Over Heat
Mar 1, 2016San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (24-18-6-3, 57pts) presented by Barracuda Networks opened up the month of March by scoring five goals on special teams with a 7-1 win over the visiting Stockton Heat (23-22-1-2, 49pts) in front of 3,985 fans at SAP Center on Tuesday evening.
Nikolay Goldobin (2-1-3), John McCarthy (1-2-3), and Micheal Haley (0-3-3) all recorded three points while Karl Stollery (1-1-2), Bryan Lerg (1-1-2), and Ryan Carpenter (1-1-2) each added two as the Barracuda matched a season high with seven goals. San Jose scored a season high four power play goals and added a shorthanded goal while Troy Grosenick picked up his 11th win of season with 18 saves.
The Barracuda had a terrific first period of play and grabbed a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes. Captain Bryan Lerg (14th) roofed home a centering feed from behind the net by Barclay Goodrow at 2:31 to give San Jose a 1-0 lead. John McCarthy (11th) continued his hot streak as he found a loose puck in front of the net and fired the puck through the pads of Kevin Poulin at 7:03 to put the Barracuda up 2-0. Shots were 11-5 in favor of the home club in the first period of play.
San Jose went ahead 4-0 as Jeremy Langlois (9th) scored a beautiful shorthanded goal at 5:49 and Nikolay Goldobin (12th) fired home a power play strike at 11:20. Stockton scored their only goal on the power play at 16:46 as Hunter Shinkaruk (22nd) found room past the glove of Troy Grosenick from in tight as San Jose took a 4-1 lead into second intermission.
The Barracuda ripped the game open with three more goals in the third period as Nikolay Goldobin (13th) struck again at 9:05 on the power play and Karl Stollery (6th) followed with another power play score at 13:32. Ryan Carpenter (13th) ended the barrage at 16:36 to give San Jose the 7-1 home victory.

Frazer McLaren, Raffi Torres (inj), Alex Gallant (inj), Rick Pinkston, Dylan DeMelo, Scott Timmins (personal reasons), and Mark Cundari did not dress for the Barracuda… the Barracuda play nine of 11 games at home in the month of March… John McCarthy has a season high eight game point streak (6-6-13)…Bryan Lerg (1-4-5) and Micheal Haley (0-5-5) each have a three game point streak….forward Jeremy Morin made his Barracuda debut and wore jersey #21 for San Jose and picked up an assist…the shorthanded goal by Langlois was the 5th scored by San Jose this season… the Barracuda have scored 42 in nine games vs. the Heat this year.
