BARRACUDA UPEND CONDORS 3-2 IN FINAL SECONDS OF OT
Jan 15, 2018
SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (17-15-0-2) needed a third-period comeback to force overtime and a game-winner from Nick DeSimone with six seconds left in the extra session to earn two points against the Bakersfield Condors (16-14-7-0) on Monday afternoon at SAP Center in front of 5,218 fans.
San Jose opened up the scoring just two minutes and one second into the first as Jacob Middleton crossed a rink-wide pass to an uncovered Emerson Clark (3) who corralled the feed on his backhand and steered the puck past Laurent Brossoit on his forehand before the netminder could get to the near post. The Condors evened the score at 6:12 as Caleb Jones crossed the San Jose' line as he raced down the left wing, threw a pass on net and Patrick Russell (7) redirected the puck through Antoine Bibeau's five-hole.
After a scoreless second, thanks in large part to a pair of point-blank right pad saves by Bibeau, the Condors would finally take its first lead in the third. Brad Malone (10) got behind the Barracuda defense after the puck pinballed off a pair of sticks and then slid the puck through Antoine's five-hole at 4:40. After multiple chances, San Jose finally tied the score as Danny O'Regan found an uncovered Cavan Fitzgerald (3) entering the offensive zone and the rookie defenseman snapped a far-side shot from the slot.
In overtime, San Jose dominated the extra session, generating chance after chance until DeSimone (3) pocked a loose puck past the goal line after Brossoit failed to secure the initial shot.
Bibeau (10-7-0) earned his second consecutive win by making 26 saves, while Brossoit (3-3-1) suffered the loss after allowing three goals on 31 shots.
