BARRACUDA EARN POINT IN SHOOTOUT LOSS TO BAKERSFIELD

Oct 10, 2018

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (2-0-0-1) never trailed in 65 minutes of play on Wednesday but suffered their first loss of the season in a 3-2 shootout defeat to the Bakersfield Condors (2-1-0-0) at SAP Center at San Jose.

Alex True (1) drew first blood at 4:21 of the first as he tipped a Keaton Middleton point shot through the five-hole of veteran netminder Al Montoya. From that point, Bakersfield tilted the ice in their favor, outshooting the Barracuda 16-to-five in the period and tying the game at 12:36 when Evan Polei (1) redirected a Josh Currie pass past Antoine Bibeau from the right corner.

In the second, San Jose potted the periods only goal as Jayden Halbgewachs (1) scooped up a rebound from a Jeremy Roy point shot and backhanded the loose puck in after working his way around Montoya at 7:51 on the power play.

In the third, Joe Gambardella (1) was sprung on a breakaway and tied the game by snapping a shot top-shelf over the blocker of Bibeau at 7:28. After regulation ended tied at 2-2 through 60 minutes, the Condors would go onto to win 3-2 in a shootout despite San Jose outshooting Bakersfield 3-0 in the overtime session that saw both teams have power-play opportunities from two-many men penalties.

Antoine Bibeau (1-0-0-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up two goals on 36 shots while Montoya moved to 2-0 after making 23 saves on 25 shots.
