ADMIRALS SAIL TO 3-1 WIN OVER SAN JOSE

Jan 6, 2017

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (16-8-1-3) never led Friday, and the Milwaukee Admirals (20-8-2-2) used a strong forecheck and perimeter defense to earn a 3-1 win at SAP Center on Friday night.

The loss was San Jose's first regulation loss on home ice since Dec. 8, which snapped an eight-game point streak at home. The defeat also snapped San Jose's five-game home winning streak.

In the first period, the Admirals came out blazing, outshooting the Barracuda 17-to-5 and Derek Army (1) was able to crash the net and give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead at 5:07. San Jose killed off the lone penalty of the frame, and Troy Grosenick stood on his head to keep the score at just one.

In the second, the Barracuda flipped the ice and were able to tie the game at 1-1 on the power play. Tim Heed threw a pass to the slot, and Danny O'Regan (11) tipped the puck past Marek Mazanec at 14:54. The Barracuda outshot the Admirals 18-to-14 in the period, but Justin Kirkland (3) recaptured Milwaukee's lead at 19:12 after cleaning up a rebound.

In the final 20 minutes, San Jose desperately searched for an equalizer, peppering 17 shots on net, but Army (2) netted his second goal of the game as he streaked down the left wing and beat Grosenick over the left pad and under the glove at 9:44.

Mazanec (7-4-2) earned the victory by making 39 saves on 40 shots, while Grosenick (9-6-2) suffered the loss after allowing three goals on 32 shots.
