Checkmate: On Sunday the Barracuda continue their seven-game homestand with the second of two games over the weekend against the Charlotte Checkers (Florida Panthers). The Barracuda are 2-3 lifetime against the Checkers and 1-2 at home after Friday’s 5-3 loss. San Jose and Charlotte were both members of the AHL’s Pacific Division in its inaugural season back in 2015-16. The Checkers are the first Eastern Conference opponent the Barracuda have faced in their history.

 

Friday Wrap: The San Jose Barracuda (2-5-3-0) led twice on Friday at Tech CU Arena but couldn’t hold on to the lead and would eventually fall 5-3 to the Charlotte Checkers (7-3-0-0). In the loss, Thomas Bordeleau and Jacob Peterson each collected their first goals of the year. Georgi Romanov would allow five goals on 40 shots, suffering his first regulation loss of the season.

 

Checking in on Charlotte: The Checkers enter Sunday having won five in a row, tied for the longest current winning streak in the league. Charlotte boast best penalty kill in the AHL (91.1%) having killed off 18 in a row.,

 

Trade Winds: The Sharks dealt Adam Raska and a fifth rounder in 2026 to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday for defenseman Calen Addison. Before the deal, Raska had skated in seven games with the Barracuda this season, notching zero points and four penalty minutes.

 

Gush Goin’: Danil Gushchin buried the game-winner on Sunday in the Barracuda’s 4-1 win over the Calgary Wranglers. The sophomore forward now has points in six of eight (4+8=12) and now leads the team in shots (48), points (13) and assists (9) and is T-first in goals (4), game-winners (1). Among league leaders, he is T-fifth in points and assists and T-second in shots. A year ago, as a rookie, he ranked first among freshmen in shots (203), T-11th in goals (22), T-13th in points (45), T-10th in power-play goals (7), and 16th in shootout percentage (4/7=57.1%).
