Playoff Primer: Tied for the third spot in the Pacific Division at 73 points, along with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the Barracuda and Abbotsford Canucks drop the puck on a two-game weekend series beginning on Friday at Tech CU Arena. The Barracuda are 2-0 versus Vancouver’s affiliate at home, winning a pair of games in late November, and are 3-2-1 overall. The Barracuda enter Friday with points in their last five (3-0-1-1).

 

Wednesday Wrap: The Barracuda earned a point on Wednesday in San Diego, falling 4-3 in overtime. In the loss, SJ got goals from Lucas Vanroboys, Ethan Cardwell and Danil Gushchin and 22 saves from Gabe Carriere. The Barracuda finished up their eight-game series with the Gulls going 3-2-2-1.

 

Powering Up: The Barracuda set a franchise record on Wednesday by extending their power-play goal streak to 10 consecutive games (18/47=38%), going one-for-four on the advantage. SJB boasts the league’s top PP unit (25.2%), top home PP (24.6%) and top road advantage (25.8%).

 

Hot Pot: Andrew Poturalski collected two more assists on Wednesday and now has eight points over his last three games and is up to a league-high 73 points and 43 assists. The nine-year has 30 goals and 13 power-play goals for the first time in his career and is pacing the league in points, and T-first in power-play goals (13) and assists, and T-third in goals. The New Hampshire alum has points in 19 of his last 23 games (15+22=37).

  

Dan the Man: Danil Gushchin extended his points streak and goals streak to a career-long eight and five games respectively on Wednesday as he found the back of the net on the power play. In the process, he matched John McCarthy’s franchise record for goals in consecutive games which was set during the team’s inaugural season in 2015-16. During the eight contests, the winger has 13 points (7+6=13). The third-year pro ranks T-first in the league in power-play goals (13) and is up to a career-best 26 goals, which is T-sixth in the league. Over his last 13 games, Gushchin has 12 goals and nine assists. The 23-year-old was named this week's Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the week after aft collecting seven points (4+3=7) in three games.

 

Carriere Clog: Since Yaroslav Askarov’s injury on Feb. 19, Gabe Carriere has started 10 of the Barracuda’s last 14 games, going 5-2-3 over that stretch with a pair of shutouts. The Sharks signed the 24-year-old to an NHL contract for the remainder of the season on Mar. 7 and on that same day he earned his first AHL shutout, blanking the Abbotsford Canucks 3-0 on 35 stops.

 

Walk the Talk: After missing three games as he and his wife welcomed the birth of their first child, Lincoln, Walker Duehr returned to the lineup this past weekend and scored three times, including a pair on Sunday. Since being assigned to the Barracuda in early March, the Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native has points in five of six games (5+3=8).

 

Pavs Popping: Pavol Regenda had his career long points streak snapped at six games (3+5=8) on Wednesday. Since joining the Barracuda in late January, the Slovak has 20 points (6+14=20) in 26 games. Prior to being traded to the Sharks on Jan. 22, he had 16 points (4+12=16) in 36 contests with the San Diego Gulls.

 

Beck and Call: After signing an entry-level contact with the Sharks for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday, blueliner Noah Beck inked an ATO for the remainder of this year with the Barracuda on Friday. Beck, 24, tallied a collegiate career best of 33 points (five goals, 28 assists) this season with Arizona State, leading Sun Devils blue-liners in points, goals and assists. He was selected to the All-NCHC Second Team in his lone season in the conference after finishing second among league defensemen in assists. Prior to transferring to ASU, Beck played four seasons with Clarkson University.
