Chance of Reign: After having their three-game winning streak and seven game point streak snapped on Saturday in San Diego, 5-2, the Barracuda look to bounce back on Sunday in Ontario as they face the Reign for the third time this season and first time since they began the year at Ontario in mid-October. The Barracuda are 1-1 versus the Kings affiliate and 29-35-6-2 all time. The Barracuda’s 5-0 win on opening night (Oct. 13) over the Reign snapped an eight-game skid (0-6-1-1) versus Ontario and was the first victory since March 6, 2023 (6-2 W).
About Last Night: The Barracuda gave up a season-high three goals in the second period and could not recover, falling 5-2 to the San Diego Gulls. In the loss, Luca Vanroboys and Thomas Bordeleau scored but Yaroslav Askarov suffered just his fourth loss of the season. After the defeat, the Barracuda are 1-1-0-1 against the Ducks affiliate, having dropped the last two meetings.
Row the Boat: Lucas Vanroboys notched his sixth goal of the season on Saturday and now ranks first on the team in penalty minutes (45), T-first in plus/minus (+8) and third in goals. Among AHL rookies, the Thamesville, Ontario native is second in PIM’s, third in plus/minus, and T-sixth in goals. During his five-year college career, the 25-year-old freshman never scored more than five goals. He's now has six goals in 23 games this year and seven AHL goals in 28 career games.
Ask & You Shall Receive: Despite Saturday’s loss, Yaroslav Askarov still ranks T-first in shutouts (3), second in save percentage (.938) and fourth in wins (9) and goals-against average (2.00). The 22-year-old is T-first on the league in shutouts (3), second in save percentage (.942), T-second in goals-against average (1.84), and third in wins (9). Askarov was named the AHL’s Goalie of the Month in October after going 5-0 with a pair of shutouts. The former 11th overall pick by the Nashville Predators was traded to the Sharks on August 23, 2024, in exchange for forward David Edstrom, a 2025 conditional first-round pick, and goaltender Magnus Chrona. Askarov is 1-0-1 against the Gulls this season, with a .96 goals-against average and save percentage (.976). In his career, Askarov is 2-3-1 against the Ducks affiliate (Barracuda/Admirals).
Hot Pot: Andrew Poturalksi scored the game-tying and shootout game-winner on Thursday at Coachella Valley against his former club. The veteran is now T-eighth in the AHL in goals (9) and points (21), and T-fifth in power-play goals (4). Among Barracuda skaters, he is first in goals and power-play goals, and second in points, and assists (12). Poturalski is three pro games shy of 500 in his career and nine points shy of 450 in the AHL. In 27 career games versus the Ontario Reign, Poturalski has 31 points (10+21=31)
Great Graf: Barracuda rookie Collin Graf ranks T-seventh in the AHL in points (22) and T-third in assists (17). Among first-year players, he is first in helpers, T-second in power-play assists (7) and third in points. Graf leads the Barracuda in points and assists.
Luca Lightning: Freshman defender Luca Cagnoni picked up a helper on Saturday and now ranks third in the AHL among defensemen in points (20), T-second in goals (7), power-play assists (8), and power-play points (11), third in power-play goals (3), T-fourth in assists (13). Among league rookies, he is first in power-play points and T-first in power-play assists. Additionally, he is T-fifth in goals.
