Barracuda Bytes: At Least It's August
Barracuda Bytes 8/5
Aug 5, 2015What’s the good word Barracuda fans!? Eric Lindquist (PR and radio voice of the Barracuda) checking in to provide you with an inside scoop on everything Barracuda and whatever else I find interesting! Summer is starting to wind down and Barracuda hockey is right around the corner. So here we go.
What a save by Dell!… The San Jose Sharks announced earlier in the week that Aaron Dell (the goalie with sick glow in the dark orange pads) was re-signed to a two-way NHL/AHL contract for the 2015-16 season, which is great news for Barracuda fans! Dell signed his first-ever NHL deal with the Sharks on Feb 28, 2015 after a terrific start with the Worcester Sharks. Dell was named the Worcester Sharks rookie of the year after posting a 15-8-2 record with a 2.06 GAA and a .927 SV%. Dell won the Central Hockey League Championship with the Allen Americans in 2013 as a first year pro and won the Scott Brower Award as the CHL’s most outstanding goaltender.
At North Dakota, Dell is the career leader in goals against average (1.79) and save percentage (.923). He also ranks second all-time in winning percentage (.739) and forth in shutouts (7) at the University of North Dakota. Welcome back “Deller”! Click HERE to watch Dell in net in a 5-2 win over the Norfolk Admirals from Feb 20, 2015.
Who else can play on the Barracuda?... Any player on a two-way NHL/AHL contract with the San Jose Sharks or any player on an AHL contract is eligible to play for the Barracuda. A two-way contract does not necessarily mean the player will be with the Barracuda. Players on one-way NHL contracts would have to clear waivers before playing with the Barracuda; unless it is on a conditioning assignment – like Mirco Mueller, James Sheppard, and Tyler Kennedy last season.
Here is a list of players that are currently under 2 way NHL/AHL contracts or AHL contracts for the upcoming season: (in no particular order…I am just going to rattle them off!)
Forwards: Bryan Lerg, Micheal Haley, Chris Tierney, Barclay Goodrow, Trevor Parkes, Petter Emanuelsson, Nikolay Goldobin, Nikita Jevpalovs, Ryan Carpenter, Joonas Donskoi, Daniel Doremus, Jeremy Langlois, Tomas Hertl, Chris Crane, and John McCarthy.
Defensemen: Gus Young, Karl Stollery, Dylan Demelo, Joakim Ryan, Julius Bergman, Mark Cundari, Mirco Mueller, and Patrick McNally.
Goalies: Troy Grosenick, Aaron Dell, and Joel Rumpel.
A good mix of these players will suit up for the Barracuda at some point this season! Barracuda fans can expect a few more signings before the start of training camp in mid-September. – will keep you posted!
Barracuda Facilities… The building of the Barracuda locker room and training facilities at Sharks Ice at San Jose is on schedule (plan is to have everything set and ready the first week of September!). Make sure to check me out on twitter at @BarracudaVoice for pictures of the progress of the new facilities which will include a locker room, weight room, coach’s offices, and a lounge area for the Barracuda players. It will be pretty sick when it's all done before camp!
Merchandise… You can score Barracuda merchandise at the Sharks Store at the SAP Center. However, we still do not have jerseys. We will have them available closer to the start of the season, so just hold tight. I’m a BIG fan of the orange jersey BTW!
Just a reminder… No schedule yet (won’t be released until late August), but the AHL allows each team to release six guaranteed home dates before the actual schedule comes out. Five of the six dates for the Barracuda will also serve as Sharks/Barracuda doubleheaders at the SAP Center (can’t wait for those!). Check out the six dates below with some exciting promotions attached to them.
