JIMMY HUNTINGTON NAMED BARRACUDA’S SEVENTH CAPTAIN IN FRANCHISE HISTORY
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2026) – The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda), proud AHL (@TheAHL) affiliate of the San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks), and General Manager Joe Will announced today that forward Jimmy Huntington has been named team captain for the 2026-27 season.
Huntington, 27, served as an alternate captain during his first season with the Barracuda in 2025-26 and is entering his eighth professional campaign. The Laval, Quebec native is the seventh captain in Barracuda history and the first since Jimmy Schuldt wore the “C” during the 2024-25 season.
“Jimmy represents everything we look for in a leader,” said Barracuda Head Coach John McCarthy. “From the moment he joined our team last year, he became an important part of our group. He’s a winner, leads by example and always puts the team first.”
In his first season with the Barracuda in 2025-26, Huntington produced a career year, recording 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists) in 71 games. He finished tied for second on the team in points and third in assists while establishing career highs in points, goals, assists, power-play goals (five) and games played. He also appeared in two Calder Cup Playoff games, collecting two points (one goal, one assist).
Huntington reached his 300th career AHL game on March 15 and was named the Barracuda’s Fan Favorite award winner at the conclusion of the season.
The 6-foot, 200-pound forward has appeared in 315 career AHL regular-season games, totaling 165 points (59 goals, 106 assists) with San Jose, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hershey, Milwaukee and Syracuse.
Huntington brings championship experience to the Barracuda dressing room, having helped the Hershey Bears capture the 2024 Calder Cup. During Hershey’s championship run, he registered 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 20 postseason games, finishing tied for fourth on the Bears in playoff scoring.
Originally signed by the Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2025, Huntington re-signed with San Jose on a one-year, two-way contract on May 27, 2026.
Prior to turning pro, Huntington spent five seasons in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with Acadie-Bathurst, Victoriaville and Rimouski. In his final junior season in 2018-19, he recorded 92 points (40 goals, 52 assists) in 66 games and earned QMJHL Second All-Star Team honors.
The Barracuda open the 2026-27 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 3 against the San Diego Gulls at 3 p.m. Opening Night will feature a full-arena magnet schedule giveaway presented by Rotten Robbie.
