SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2026) – Despite a 33-save performance from Eric Comrie and a third-period goal from captain Jimmy Huntington, the San Jose Barracuda (3-5-0-0) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-1 loss to the San Diego Gulls on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena. James Hamblin scored twice in the third period for San Diego, while Laurent Brossoit turned aside 28 of 29 shots to help the Gulls secure the victory.

The Gulls opened the scoring at 14:18 of the first period when Corey Schueneman netted his first goal of the season, with assists from Sean Farrell and Yegor Sidorov. San Diego controlled much of the opening frame, outshooting San Jose 13-8, but Comrie kept the Barracuda within striking distance as the Gulls carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, despite both sides generating 12 shots on goal. The period featured a spirited fight between Libor Hájek and Konnor Smith just 1:56 into the frame. San Jose earned its lone power-play opportunity of the night at 5:06 but was unable to capitalize.

Comrie continued his strong play between the pipes, turning aside all 12 shots he faced in the middle stanza to keep the Barracuda within a goal heading into the third.

San Diego doubled its advantage at 11:04 of the third period when Hamblin scored his second goal of the season, burying a rebound from just above the crease. The Gulls extended their lead to 3-0 at 15:12 when Hamblin struck again, this time on the power play, netting his second goal of the night and third of the season.

The Barracuda finally broke through at 16:36 of the third period when Huntington tipped in a shot from Cam Lund for his fourth goal of the season. The assist marked Lund's first point of the season in his first AHL action since February. Eric Pohlkamp also picked up an assist on the play, his team-leading sixth of the year.

San Jose had pulled Comrie for an extra attacker, but Nico Myatovic sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 17:11, his fifth tally of the season.

Comrie finished with 33 saves on 36 shots, while Brossoit stopped 28 of 29 for San Diego. The Gulls outshot the Barracuda 37-29 and went 1-for-2 on the power play, while San Jose finished 0-for-1.

The loss marked the Barracuda's first road defeat of the season after opening their two-game Southern California swing with a 5-2 victory over the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Friday night. San Jose finished the trip with a 1-1-0-0 record.
