Gull Setting: After a 4-3 shootout win on Thursday at Coachella Valley, the Barracuda continue their five-game road trip in San Diego on Saturday night versus the Gulls. The Barracuda are riding a seven-game points streak (6-0-0-1) for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign when they notched points in seven in a row from Jan. 18 to Feb. 2, 2019. The Barracuda are 1-0-0-1 against the Ducks affiliate this season after a 2-1 12-round shootout loss in the last meeting on Dec. 4 at Tech CU Arena.

About Thursday: After jumping out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period on Thursday at Acrisure Arena in Coachella Valley, the Barracuda needed an extra-attacker goal from former Firebird Andrew Poturalski with under two minutes left in regulation to tie the score at 3-3 and force overtime. After no goals were scored in OT, Poturalski would win it in the second round of the shootout. The Barracuda finished the game with a season-high 54 shots and outshot the Firebirds 26-5 in the second period.  Ethan Cardwell set a franchise record with 10 shots in the game.

Ask & You Shall Receive: Yaroslav Askarov collected his ninth win of the season on Thursday and has victories in three of his last four (3-0-0-1). The 22-year-old is T-first on the league in shutouts (3), second in save percentage (.942), T-second in goals-against average (1.84), and third in wins (9). Askarov was named the AHL’s Goalie of the Month in October after going 5-0 with a pair of shutouts. The former 11th overall pick by the Nashville Predators was traded to the Sharks on August 23, 2024, in exchange for forward David Edstrom, a 2025 conditional first-round pick, and goaltender Magnus Chrona. Askarov is 1-0-1 against the Gulls this season, with a .96 goals-against average and save percentage (.976). In his career, Askarov is 2-3-1 against the Ducks affiliate (Barracuda/Admirals).

Hot Pot: Former San Diego Gulls forward Andrew Poturalksi scored the game-tying and game-winning goal on Thursday at Coachella Valley. The veteran is now T-seventh in the AHL in goals (9), T-eighth in points (21), and T-third in power-play goals (4).  Among Barracuda skaters, he is first in goals and power-play goals, and second in points, and assists (12). The veteran spent two seasons with the Gulls from 2019-21, totaling 50 (11+39=50) points in 61 games. As a member of Gulls in 2020-21, he led the AHL in points (43) and assists (34) during the shortened COVID season.

Great Graf: Barracuda rookie Collin Graf ranks T-sixth in the AHL in points (22) and T-third in assists (17). Among first-year players, he is first in helpers, T-second in points, and T-second in power-play assists (7).

Luca Lightning: Among all AHL defenders, rookie Luca Cagnoni ranks second in power-play points (11), T-second in goals (7) and power-play assists (8), T-third in power-play goals (3), and T-fourth in points (18). Among league freshmen, he is first in power-play points and T-first in power-play assists. Additionally, he is T-fifth in goals.
