BAK TO ACTION: The Barracuda close out their two-game homestand on Sunday afternoon as they host the Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers) at Tech CU Arena in the first of eight meetings between the clubs this season. San Jose enters the contest with a 3-6-0-0 record after suffering a 5-2 loss to the Abbotsford Canucks on Wednesday, its second consecutive defeat.
WEDNESDAY WOES: Despite goals from Patrick Giles and Alex Barré-Boulet, the Barracuda suffered a 5-2 loss to the Abbotsford Canucks on Wednesday night at Tech CU Arena, their second consecutive defeat. Abbotsford jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Giles scored San Jose's first shorthanded goal of the season midway through the opening period. Barré-Boulet tied the game early in the second with his first goal in a Barracuda sweater, while captain Jimmy Huntington picked up an assist to extend his career-long point streak to six games. The Canucks responded with three unanswered goals, including two from Ben Berard, while Riley Patterson added a goal and an assist as Abbotsford extended its winning streak to six games. Ty Young made 24 saves in the victory, while Ilya Samsonov stopped 21 shots for San Jose.
CONDORS COME CALLING: The Barracuda and Bakersfield Condors renew their Pacific Division rivalry on Sunday in the first of eight meetings between the clubs this season. A year ago, San Jose posted a 4-3-0-1 record against Bakersfield, including a perfect 4-0-0-0 mark at Tech CU Arena. Three of the Barracuda's four home wins came beyond regulation, including a 4-3 overtime victory in the regular-season finale on April 18. Over the last five seasons, San Jose has posted a 19-19-3-1 record against the Oilers' affiliate, including a 13-8-0-0 mark on home ice.
BARRÉ-ING DOWN: Barracuda forward Alex Barré-Boulet has made an immediate impact since returning to action following a training camp injury. The veteran winger recorded two assists in his Barracuda season debut on Oct. 23 against Coachella Valley before scoring his first goal of the campaign on the power play in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Abbotsford. Barré-Boulet, who signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Sharks over the summer, brings a wealth of AHL experience and has established himself as one of the league's most productive offensive players throughout his career.
UP AND DOWN: The Sharks recalled forward Filip Bystedt and defenseman Libor Hájek on Wednesday morning while assigning defenseman Luca Cagnoni to the Barracuda. Bystedt, San Jose's leading scorer a season ago with 60 points (22 goals, 38 assists), was selected by the Sharks in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft and is seeking his NHL debut after coming to North America prior to the 2024-25 season. Hájek, who has appeared in 110 career NHL games, all with the New York Rangers, last saw NHL action on Dec. 12, 2022. Meanwhile, Cagnoni returned to the Barracuda after collecting two points (one goal, one assist) in nine games with the Sharks this season.
AYE AYE, CAPTAIN: The Barracuda named forward Jimmy Huntington the seventh captain in franchise history on Oct. 2. In his first season with San Jose a year ago, the Laval, Quebec, native posted a career-high 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists) in 71 games, finishing tied for second on the team in scoring and earning the Barracuda's Fan Favorite award. Huntington enters Sunday riding a career-long six-game point streak (four goals, six assists). He leads the team with 10 points and is tied for the team lead with six assists.
LEASON THE WAY: Barracuda forward Brett Leason has made an immediate impact since being assigned to the club on Oct. 8. The former second-round pick (56th overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 2019 NHL Draft brings 220 games of NHL experience with Washington and Anaheim. The 6-foot-5 winger scored his third goal of the season against Coachella Valley on Oct. 23, extending his goal-scoring streak to three games. Leason recorded points in four of his first six games with the Barracuda this season, totaling five points (three goals, two assists). He also leads the club with 26 shots on goal.
GASS UP: Barracuda forward Andre Gasseau has emerged as one of the AHL's hottest rookies, scoring four goals over a three-game stretch from Oct. 14-23. The first-year pro extended his goal-scoring streak to three games against Coachella Valley on Oct. 23, opening the scoring at 5:10 of the first period with a breakaway goal. Gasseau began his scoring surge with a two-goal performance against Calgary on Oct. 14, marking the first multi-goal game of his AHL career, before adding another goal against the Wranglers on Oct. 16. The Sharks acquired Gasseau's signing rights from Boston on June 18, 2026, along with a fourth-round pick (120th overall) in the 2026 NHL Draft, in exchange for a fourth-round pick (104th overall) and a fifth-round pick (157th overall). The 6-foot-4 forward signed a two-year, entry-level contract with San Jose on July 1 after completing four seasons at Boston College, where he totaled 111 points (43 goals, 68 assists) in 135 games.
