TUCSON, ARIZ. - The San Jose Barracuda (11-10-1) used four goals in the first two periods and strong goaltending from rookie Parker Gahagen to knock off the Tucson Roadrunners(12-7-2-1), 5-2, on Wednesday night at the Tucson Convention Center.
 
After Dysin Mayo dragged down Adam Helewka on a rush down the left wing, San Jose's Julius Bergman (2) blasted a point-shot over the left shoulder of Adin Hill 38 seconds into the power play at 12:11, giving the Barracuda a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later at 13:18, John McCarthy backhanded a loose puck past Hill after the Tucson netminder failed to secure the rebound on a shot from Paul Martin.
 
In the second, Jacob Middleton crossed a pass to Brandon Mashinter on the far post and the veteran forward jammed it home for his fourth of the year at 3:52, ending Hill's night after allowing three goals on nine shots. A minute and seven seconds later, Emerson Clark(1) walked around Hunter Miska as he moved across the low slot from right to left to give San Jose a 4-0 lead. The Roadrunners would crawl back into the game with two unanswered goals, cutting San Jose's lead in half after 40 minutes. First, Michael Bunting(7) buried a two-on-one with Mario Kempe, and then Trevor Cheek (2) intercepted a cross-ice feed in his end on the penalty kill and beat San Jose's goalie through the five-hole on a breakaway. 
 
In the third, Brandon Bollig (4) sealed the victory for the Barracuda as he fired a shot from the San Jose side of the ice into an empty net on the penalty kill.
 
Gahagen (1-1) made 19 saves to earn his first pro win, while Hill (4-5-1) took the loss, working 23 minutes and 50 seconds. Miska worked the finals 34:23, stopping 10-of-11 shots he faced.
