Today:
The San Jose Barracuda and the Charlotte Checkers (AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes) meet for the 3rd of 4 meetings this season, the 1st of two meetings at the SAP Center.  The Barracuda are 1-1-0-0 vs. the Checkers this season and are 1-1-0-0 in two career matchups. San Jose has points in a season high four straight games (2-0-2-0) and is now 8-3-2-2 in their last 15 games overall to move within percentage points of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.  The Checkers have won three straight games and have points in six straight overall (5-0-1-0) as they begin a six game California road trip today in San Jose.

In case you missed it…
The San Jose Barracuda (11-9-2-3, 27pts) presented by Barracuda Networks returned to action after the holiday break with a dominating 5-1 victory over the visiting Stockton Heat (9-13-0-2, 20pts) in front of 3,985 fans at the SAP Center on Sunday afternoon.  Barclay Goodrow (2-0-2), Petter Emanuelsson (1-1-2), Trevor Parkes (1-0-1), and Bryan Lerg (1-0-1) all scored for the Barracuda in the 5-1 win while Troy Grosenick made 31 saves on 32 shots as San Jose moved two games over .500 for the first time this season.  Derek Grant (1-0-1) scored the lone goal for the Heat with Joni Ortio making 21 saves on 25 shots, and was replaced by Kent Simpson who made 9 saves on 10 shots as the Barracuda extended their point streak to four games (2-0-2-0).

The Checkers won their 3rd straight game with a 4-3 overtime win before the holiday break on Dec 20 vs. the Lake Erie Monsters.  Derek Ryan scored the overtime game winner while TJ Hensick scored twice and Jake Chelios scored the other.  Daniel Altshuller made 24 saves in net as the Checkers grabbed points in six straight games (5-0-1-0).

*Recent transactions… Defenseman Mark Cundari was reassigned by the SJ Sharks from the Barracuda to Team Canada for the Spengler Cup on Dec 22.  Rookie defenseman Rick Pinkston (Dartmouth College) was recalled from the Allen Americans (ECHL) on Dec 26.
