Barracuda Fall 2-1 to the Reign in Final Home Game of January
Jan 23, 2016SAN JOSE, CA – The San Jose Barracuda (18-12-5-3, 44pts) presented by Barracuda Networks dropped their season high 4th straight game (0-2-2-0) with a 2-1 loss to the visiting Ontario Reign (24-10-2-1, 51pts) in front of 5,624 fans at the SAP Center on Saturday evening.

Troy Grosenick (10-5-3) made 23 saves and Trevor Parkes (1-0-1) scored the lone goal as San Jose is now 9-3-3-0 in their last 15 games. Sean Backman (1-0-1) scored the game-winning goal at the end of the first period for the Reign as Peter Budaj (22-9-2) made 19 saves in net.
The Reign started the scoring at 12:31 with Kurtis MacDermid (3rd) taking a wrist shot from the point which hit both posts and went into the net. Trevor Parkes (9th) tied the game up at 16:51 powering his way through several defenders, sliding the puck between the Peter Budaj’s legs to extend his point streak to five games. The Reign regained the lead with 49 seconds left in the period while on the rush with Sean Backman (10th) receiving a lateral pass from the left circle to the slot and firing home a one timer. Shots were 11 to 8 in favor of the Barracuda with the Reign holding the 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period belonged to the goaltenders who stopped all shots they faced. The Barracuda were on the power play twice but were unable to capitalize. Shots were seven to six in favor of the Reign and the score remained at 2-1.
Aggressive play continued through the third period with both teams getting multiple scoring opportunities. The Barracuda received two penalties and were able to kill them both off. The Barracuda pulled Grosenick in the last couple minutes of regulation but they were unable to tie it up. Shots were 10 to 2 in favor of Ontario in the third. The final score was 2-1 with Ontario winning both of the back-to-back home and away games.

Frazer McLaren (inj), Raffi Torres, Alex Gallant, Daniel Doremus, and Patrick McNally did not dress for the Barracuda…the Barracuda are in a stretch where they play 9 of 11 on the road… Trevor Parkes (4-3-7) and Bryan Lerg (2-5-7) each have five game point streaks… Jeremy Langlois (0-2-2) has a two game point streak…in January the Barracuda have a 6-2-3-0 (15pts in 10gp) record with 34 GF and 28 GA….. before the game the Barracuda introduced their new mascot named Frenzy…. The Barracuda wore a special camouflage jersey for Military Appreciation Night.
