SHARKS RECALL FORWARD JOACHIM BLICHFELD FROM BARRACUDA
Dec 12, 2019SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) general manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled forward Joachim Blichfeld (@joachimblich) from the San Jose Barracuda (@sjbarracuda), the team's top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Blichfeld, 21, led the Barracuda in points (19), goals (9), power-play goals (3) and ranked tied for fourth in assists (10) and third in shots on goal (52) in 20 games at the time of his recall. The first-year pro led all Barracuda rookies in scoring and ranked in the top-10 in rookie points (T-6th) and goals (7th).
Prior to his professional career, Blichfeld registered career highs in the 2018-19 campaign, with 114 points (53 goals, 61 assists) in 68 games played for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. He led the WHL in points, co-led in goals and finished tied for seventh in assists. Among CHL players, Blichfeld completed the regular season second in points and tied for third in goals. He appeared in five WHL playoff games in 2019, recording four points (two goals, two assists).
Blichfeld earned the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL's Top Scorer in the 2018-19 regular season and became the second Danish player to win the WHL scoring title. He also was named the WHL Western Conference Player of the year, First-Team WHL Western Conference.
Over his WHL career, Blichfeld amassed 228 points (105 goals, 123 assists) in 187 contests with a plus-32 rating. In the WHL postseason, he scored 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists).
The six-foot-two, 190-pound native of Frederikshavn, Denmark was selected by San Jose in the 2016 NHL Draft (seventh round, 210th overall). This marks Blichfeld's first NHL recall.
