Sharks Sign Defenseman Mark Cundari
Jul 2, 2015SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed defenseman Mark Cundari to a one-year contract.
Cundari, 25, posted 29 points (7 goals, 22 assists) and 64 penalty minutes in 50 games last season with Adirondack of the American Hockey League (AHL). He led all Adirondack defensemen in points, goals and assists (tied) as the team's alternate captain.
In 281 career AHL games with Adirondack, Chicago, Abbotsford and Peoria, Cundari has tallied 125 points (36 goals, 89 assists) and 398 penalty minutes. He was named to the AHL Western Conference All-Star Team in 2012-13, and has posted one goal and three assists in 12 AHL Playoff games. In eight career NHL games with Calgary, he has registered one goal and two assists.
Prior to turning pro, Cundari spent four seasons with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he played for newly-hired Sharks Assistant Coach Bob Boughner. Cundari helped Windsor win back-to-back OHL and Memorial Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010.
The five-foot-ten, 195-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, was originally signed as a free agent by St. Louis on Sept. 24, 2008.
