SAN JOSE ALLOWS 2 LATE GOALS, FALLS TO BAKERSFIELD 4-2
Dec 16, 2017SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (11-11-0-1) fell to the Bakersfield Condors (10-11-3-0) on Saturday in the first game of a weekend set at SAP Center. The Condors scored two goals in the final two minutes to secure the 4-2 victory.
Bakersfield struck first when Patrick Russell (6) scored just three minutes into the first period off an assist from Grayson Downing. The teams earned two power play opportunities apiece during the period, but neither could find the back of the net in the remaining 17 minutes and the scored remained 1-0 in favor of the Condors going into the second frame.
After fifteen minutes of scoreless play in the second period, the Barracuda tied the game at 1-1 on a wrister from just outside the top of the circle by Nick DeSimone (1), his first goal of the season. But the Condors answered quickly with a power play goal scored by Ty Rattie (9) at the 17:40 mark, bringing the score to 2-1, where it would stay entering the second intermission.
The Barracuda took only 1:15 into the third to even the score, with a Brandon Bollig (5) goal coming off a behind-the-back assist from Alexander True. Both defenses stiffened once again, before the Condors scored the go-ahead with 1:21 remaining on a goal by Braden Christoffer (3) coming off an assist from Russell. Keegan Lowe (2) would tack on an empty-net goal at the 19:58 to seal the 4-2 Bakersfield victory.
Bakersfield netminder Nick Ellis (6-5-1) earned the victory making 19 saves on 21 shots, while San Jose’s Antoine Bibeau (6-5-0) took the loss, making 25 saves on 28 shots.
