REIGN EXPLODE FOR THREE-GOAL THIRD, TOP BARRACUDA 3-0
Nov 24, 2017
ONTARIO, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (7-8-0-1) allowed three unanswered goals in the third period on Friday at Citizens Business Bank Arena and fell 3-0 to the Ontario Reign (7-7-9-1).
Cal Petersen (4-3) made 23 saves to earn his second career shutout and second consecutive win over San Jose, while Parker Gahagen (0-1-0-0) took the loss in his pro debut after allowing three goals on 27 shots.
After a scoreless penalty-free opening period that San Jose was outshot 10-to-6, the Barracuda nearly captured the games first lead on the only power play in the second period as Jeremy Roy ringed a right-point shot off the far post. San Jose would go on to hit two more posts in the frame but the game remained scoreless.
In the third, Stepan Falkovsky (1) snuck down from the left point and snapped a rebound through the five-hole of Gahagen at 1:57, and then Brett Sutter (4) ripped a shot top shelf from the slot to give Ontario a two-goal advantage at 4:25. The Reign completed the three-goal period on a two-on-one that resulted in Justin Auger (1) lifting a feed from Mike Amadio past Gahagen at the seven-minute mark.
The Barracuda return to SAP Center on Sunday as they take on the San Diego Gulls for the first time this season. Sunday is Pucks and Paws night as the Barracuda will be wearing specialty jerseys and the first 4,000 humans to enter the building will receive a Marc Edouard Vlasic bobblehead. Fans can also bring their dogs to the arena with the purchase of a $5 dog ticket. For more information visit SJBarracuda.com/paws.
