Grosenick makes 32 saves to earn a third-straight shutout
Dec 17, 2016San Jose, CA - Troy Grosenick extended his shutout streak to a franchise-record 241 minutes and 36 seconds and the San Jose Barracuda blanked the Bakersfield Condors, 5-0, on 'Cuda Christmas Night at SAP Center in front of 5,090 fans.
After killing off three first period Condor' power plays, and extending its streak to 25 penalties killed off in a row, San Jose struck as Barracuda forward Marcus Sorensen (5) snapped his 10-game pointless drought with a breakaway finish on Nick Ellis to cue the Teddy Bear Toss at 18:58.
In the second, Grosenick robbed a point-blank chance from Joey Benik after a San Jose turnover and then Adam Helewka (4) extended the Barracuda lead to 2-0 at 17:29 as he rolled a shot up and over Ellis from the top of the crease.
In the third, Nikolay Goldobin (3) snapped a 14-game goalless drought on a breakaway snipe at 6:11 to make it 3-0. Danny O'Regan then powered his way to the net and Nikita Jevpalovs (2) jammed home his first goal in his last 14 games. Jon Martin (1) capped off the evening by redirecting a Julius Bergman wrister past Ellis at 14:15 for his first of his pro career.
Grosenick (6-4-1) collected his third shutout win in a row and fifth shutout of the season by making 32 saves. Ellis (4-3-1) took the loss after allowing five goals on 33 shots.
San Jose's season long three-game winning streak moved the Barracuda into a tie with Tucson Roadrunners for the third spot in the Pacific Division.
