Third Time’s the Charm: After a pair of losses (0-1-1-0) this past weekend in Henderson against the Knights, the Barracuda host Vegas’ top affiliate for the first time this season on Wednesday as they kick off a three-game homestand. The Barracuda are 9-14-1-2 all time against Henderson and 7-4-0-1 at home. A year ago, the Barracuda went 6-1-0-1 and 4-0 at home against the Knights, outscoring Henderson 17-7 in the four games at Tech CU Arena.

Blueline Bolster: The Sharks assigned veteran d-man Radim Simek, 31, to the AHL on Saturday. The Czechia-born blueliner has yet to appear in any action for the Sharks this season after suffering an injury when he blocked a shot during a Sharks preseason game against Anaheim on Sept. 27. Simek last appeared in the AHL in 2019-20 when he skated in two games with the Barracuda during a conditioning stint. In 2017-18, his first in North America, he spent the entire campaign in the AHL with the Barracuda. In his career, he has skated in 209 NHL games with the Sharks, notching 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists).

Silver Lining: The Silver Knights dropped its first game of the year on Tuesday night in Bakersfield, falling 5-1 to the Condors at Mechanics Bank Arena. A year ago, the Knights missed the postseason for the first time in its history, going 29-28-0-5 (63 pts./.438). Ryan Craig, who served as an assistant coach with the Golden Knights from 2017-23, was named the head coach of the Silver Knights on June 26, 2023, replacing Manny Viveiros. Former Shark’ Joel Ward, who spent the last three years as an assistant coach with Vegas’ AHL club under Viveiros, replaced Craig on the Golden Knights bench for the 2023-24 campaign.

Carpenter Connection: Ryan Carpenter, who began his career with the Sharks’ organization, signed a one-year deal this summer to return to the Bay Area. The Floridian ranks fifth in Barracuda history in points (100) and points in a single season (55, 2015-16). Carpenter, who has played 330 NHL games in his career, spent parts of two years with the Golden Knights from 2017-19, skating in 104 games for Vegas while collecting 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists). A year ago, in his first season back in the AHL since 2016-17 when he was with the Barracuda, he notched a career-best 21 goals as a member of the Hartford Wolfpack. Carpenter collected his 100th point (assist) in a Barracuda sweater on Saturday in Henderson and is now pacing the team in scoring through four games (three goals, three assists). He is nine games shy of 600 in his pro career between the AHL (261) and NHL (330).
