Home Sweet Home: On Saturday, after falling 4-3 in overtime on Friday to the Colorado Eagles, the Barracuda wrap up its 36-game home schedule and, in the process, close its eight-game season series with the Avs affiliate. Since winning the first meeting, 2-1, in overtime on Nov. 12, the Barracuda have dropped six in a row versus the Eagles, getting outscored 27-11. The Barracuda are 6-5-3-1 all-time at home against Colorado and 1-1-1-0 this year.
Friday Fight: On Friday, the Barracuda gave up a goal just 1:15 into the first period but managed to tie the score in the first on a Derrick Pouliot power-play goal at 9:17. After failing to score on a five-on-three power play, the Barracuda would fall behind 2-1 when Mitchell Vande Sompel fired home the go-ahead goal at 17:58 of the first. In the second, down 2-1, the Barracuda would score two unanswered goals to take their first lead. First, Nathan Burke at 13:44 and Shakir Mukhamadullin at 17:17. The Barracuda would carry a 3-2 lead into the third, but Sam Malinski leveled score as his well-wide shot went off the skate of Nikolai Knyzhov and in at 5:41. In overtime, Colorado would seal the win just 41 seconds into the extra session as Alex Galchenyuk fed a pass to Mikhail Maltzev on a two-on-one for the GWG.
Cuda Chronicles: The Barracuda enter Saturday three points behind the Tucson Roadrunners for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division after Tucson's 7-3 loss at home to the Texas Stars on Friday. The Barracuda will face the Roadrunners in its last two games on April 14, 15 at the Tucson Convention Center. Since Feb. 11, the Barracuda have averaged 3.4 goals for per-game over its last 23 outings. On the season, San Jose is 28th in goals-for (2.86) and 27th in goals-against (3.48).
Eagles Scouts: The Eagles, who have been on the road since Mar. 29, wrap up its six-game trip in San Jose on Saturday. Colorado is 3-1-1-0 on the roadie so far and 5-3-2-0 over its last 10 on visiting ice. Colorado currently sits at the third spot in the Pac Division, one point ahead of the Abbotsford Canucks. If the season were to end today, the Colorado would host Ontario in round one. The Eagles are 27th in the AHL in goals-for (2.88) and third in goals-against (2.68). In the first seven games against SJ, the Eagles have averaged four goals per and 1.8 goals against.
