Marching Along: After falling in its two road games at Colorado earlier this week, the Barracuda kick off a two-game homestand against the Bakersfield Condors with the first of back-to-back contests on Saturday. The Barracuda are 3-3 against the Condors, 1-1 at home, and are coming off a 6-2 loss in the last meeting on Mar. 11 at Mechanics Bank Arena.
Roadie Woes: On Wednesday, the Barracuda took a 2-1 lead into the third period at the Budweiser Events Center, but the Colorado Eagles found a way to notch a pair of goals in the third period to collect a 3-2 win. Charles Hudon would bury the game-winner on the power play, his AHL-best 16th PPG, and third in two games against the Barracuda. In total, SJ was outscored 11-2 in the two outings. Tristen Robins notched the only two Cuda goals on Wednesday, marking his first multi-goal game of his career. Brandon Coe was in on both of Robins power-play tallies and Shakir Mukhamadullin picked up his first AHL helper on Robins second goal.
Back in Bakersfield: In the last matchup against the Bakersfield Condors on Mar. 11, Aaron Dell worked the first two periods, allowing five goals on 28 shots as the Barracuda fell 6-2. In the defeat, Seth Griffith collected his first hat-trick as a member of the Condors, and fourth of his career, Raphael Lavoie notched a pair of goals and Noah Philp scored. The Barracuda got tallies from Andrew Agozzino and Darren Brady but went 0/6 on the PP and 4/6 on the PK. The Cuda were outshot 41-29 and remained winless against Calvin Pickard (0-2). The night before, the Barracuda won 4-0 as Dell made 23 stops for his second shutout of the year and Jeff Viel pocketed his first career hat-trick.
Cuda Chronicles: The Barracuda enter Saturday three points behind the Tucson Roadrunners for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division and seven points behind the Condors. SJ has four more home games left on its schedule and 10 total. The Barracuda went 2-1 in its last homestand, winning 5-4 in overtime in the homestand finale against the Texas Stars on Mar. 18, but are 4-5-0-1 in its last 10 at Tech CU Arena.
Condors Check: The Condors are coming off a 3-1 win over the Abbotsford Canucks at home on Wednesday and have now won three of four and six of seven. Bakersfield is 23rd in the AHL in goals-for (3.00), 19th in goals-against (3.08), 20th in shots-for (29.90), 24th in shots-against (31.21), are a +9 in the first period and are 20-12-1-2 (.614) when scoring first. Seth Griffith leads the team in points (55) and assists (38), while Raphael Lavoie is pacing the Condors in goals (22), game-winning goals (7), T-first in power-play goals (6) and second in +/- (+10) and shots (151).
