Texas Two Step: After a 2-1 overtime win against the Texas Stars (Dallas Stars) on Friday, the Barracuda turnaround on Saturday and close out the four-game season series with the Stars at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park and continue its four-game road trip that will conclude on Wednesday in San Diego against the Gulls. The Barracuda are 2-1 against the Stars this season, winning the last two games in overtime. A year ago, the Barracuda went 1-1 in the Lone Star State and are 17-9-1-2 all-time versus Dallas’ top affiliate and 7-5-1-1 on the road. Since the Stars joined the Central Division in 2018-19, the Barracuda are 10-5 against Texas and all-time against Central Division foes, the Cuda boast a record of 36-17-2-2.

 

Friday Fun: The Barracuda got 22 saves from Aaron Dell and an overtime winner from Derrick Pouliot to upend the Texas Stars on Friday night, 2-1. After a scoreless first period, Tristen Robins opened the scoring with a shorthanded snipe at 15:17. In the third, the Barracuda were outshot 10-6, and at 10:33, Ryan Shea leveled the score at 1-1. With no more goals in regulation, the game would go to overtime and on the first shot of the extra session, Pouliot would win it just 48 seconds in. Dell improved to 2-0 against the Stars this season and 3-2 in his career, while Scott Wedgewood took the loss, allowing a pair on 26 shots.

  

Cuda Chronicles: The Barracuda enter Saturday six points behind the Tucson Roadrunners for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division, with a game in hand. Tucson lost on Friday in overtime, 3-2, at Bakersfield but have points in four straight (3-0-1-0). SJ has five more road games left on its schedule and seven total.

 

Star Studded: The Texas Stars enter Saturday a point behind the Milwaukee Admirals for the top spot in the Central Division, but with a point earned on Friday, the Stars punched a playoff berth. Texas closes out its six-game homestand on Saturday and are 3-1-1-0 on it so far, dropping its last two games. Texas is third in the AHL in goal-differential (+48), goals-for (3.60), shots for (32.62), shots-against (27.95), eighth in goals-against (2.86), and take an average of just 11.03 penalty minutes per-game which is fifth fewest in the league. Veteran forward Riley Barber, who was given a game-misconduct for head butting on Friday, ranks T-third in the league in goals (30), T-eighth in points (61), second in shots (233) and T-second in game-winning goals (8). D-men Alex Petrovic (+37) and Ryan Shea (+35) are 1 and 2 in the AHL in +/-.

 

Cap is Back: The Sharks reassigned captain Andrew Agozzino to the Barracuda on Thursday after he appeared in four games with the big club, notching a goal and two helpers. The 11th-year pro is first on the Barracuda in goals (24), assists (29), points (53), and T-first in power-play assists (14) and game-winning goals (3). He is one goal shy of matching Barclay Goodrow’s (2016-17) franchise record for goals in a season and four points shy of Danny O’Regan’s (2016-17) single-season points record.
