Tonight’s Matchup: On Saturday, the Barracuda kick off a home-and-home with the Stockton Heat that will conclude the twelve game season series between the two clubs. San Jose is 6-4-0 against the Heat this season and 3-2-0 in Stockton. During the ten games, Tim Heed leads all Barracuda scorers with 11 points (2+9=11), while Stockton’s Mark Jankowski has 13 points (7+6=13) in 10 games.
Best of the West: The San Jose Barracuda can win the Pacific Division on Saturday with three different scenarios. (a) A win at Stockton, OR (b) a San Diego regulation loss at Ontario, OR (c) an OTL/SOL at Stockton AND a San Diego OTL/SOL at Ontario. A win will also give San Jose the Western Conference crown as well.
Cuda Call Up: On Saturday, the San Jose Sharks recalled defenseman Tim Heed and forwards Danny O’Regan and Timo Meier from the Barracuda. Among AHL defensemen, Tim Heed is fourth in points (14+40=54), third in assists, T-fifth in goals, T-fifth in power-play goals (8), T-fifth in game-winning goals (4) and is T-15th overall in the league in points. Among AHL rookies, Danny O’Regan ranks first in points (21+34=55), fifth in goals, second in assists, T-second in power-play goals (9), and is T-first in game-winning goals (5).
Rockin’ Ryan: Joakim Ryan is seventh among AHL defensemen in points (10+35=45), T-fifth in assists, and is fourth in the AHL in plus/minus (+27).
Award Season: On Wednesday, Danny O’Regan was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team, and on Thursday, Troy Grosenick and Tim Heed were selected to the AHL First and Second All-Star Team. Grosenick is second in wins (29), second in goals-against average (2.00), second in save percentage .929 and first in shutouts (10). Grosenick is just one of five goaltenders in AHL history to reach double-digit shutout in a season.
