Tonight’s Matchup: The San Jose Barracuda and Bakersfield Condors battle again on Friday after the Barracuda beat Bakersfield, 4-1, on Wednesday night. The Barracuda are 4-1-0-1 against the Condors on the season and 1-1 in Bakersfield.
Top Of The Class: The Barracuda were a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill on Wednesday and have now killed off 15 straight on the PK. San Jose ranks second in the AHL on the kill (88.5%) and fifth in the AHL on the power play (24.7%).
Let’s go streaking: San Jose's win on Wednesday matched a season long three-game winning streak. The Barracuda now have points in seven-straight games and 11 of their last 12.
Good Times: Barracuda forward Barclay Goodrow buried his team-leading 11th goal on Wednesday and now has goals in three-straight games. Goodrow also leads the Barracuda in game-winning goals (3).
Gold Rush: Barracuda forward Nikolay Goldobin netted his sixth goal of the season on Wednesday and now has goals in three-straight games and four in his last five. Goldobin is third on the Barracuda in assists (15) and points (21).
Dazzling Danny: Barracuda forward Danny O’Regan scored his eighth goal of the year on Wednesday and now has 28 points on the season which ranks second among AHL rookies and T-10th in the AHL. O’Regan leads the Barracuda in assists (21), points and T-first in plus-minus (+10).
Heed Check: Barracuda blueliner Tim Heed (7+17=24) ranks fifth in the AHL in points among d-men and fourth in assists. Heed is second on the Barracuda in points and assists and is T-first in plus-minus (+10)
Oh Boy Troy: Barracuda netminder Troy Grosenick leads the AHL in shutouts (5), seventh in goals-against average (1.95) and fifth in save percentage (9.29). Grosenick had stretch in the month of December in which he did not allow a goal in 247 minutes and eights seconds and was named CCM/AHL Player of the Week on Dec. 12.
Last Time Out: The San Jose Barracuda played their first game on the road since December 4 but carried over the momentum collected during their home stand by topping the Bakersfield Condors, 4-1, at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.
Nikolay Goldobin (6) potted his third goal in his last three contests as Marcus Sorensen sprung the speedy winger on a breakaway with a stretch pass from the Barracuda line and Goldobin snapped a quick shot top shelf short side at 4:08. Barclay Goodrow (11) gave the Barracuda the 2-0 advantage on his team's second power play as he drove to the net from below the right circle and jammed the puck past Nick Ellis at 11:51.
The Barracuda took a 3-0 lead at 6:50 of the second period after Jon Martin slipped a tape-to-tape pass from the right wing to Danny O'Regan (8) who tapped the puck passed Ellis. The Barracuda looked poised to have a 3-0 nod heading into the third period, but a failed defensive zone clear led to Scott Allen (4) sniping a shot past Troy Grosenick from the high slot at 19:57.
In the third period, Grosenick made 11 saves, and Adam Helewka (8) scored on an empty net to secure a 4-1 victory.
Grosenick (7-4-2) made 28 saves on the night, and Ellis (4-4-2) suffered the loss after allowing four goals on 21 shots.
