Barracuda Weekly (11.23.16)
Nov 23, 2016Barracuda return home after six-game road trip….
Weekly rewind…
The San Jose Barracuda concluded its six-game road trip with a Tuesday tilt in Bakersfield. Despite putting 38 shots on net, San Jose only generated one goal and fell 3-1 to the Condors. The Barracuda ended its road swing that went through both Texas and Southern California with a 2-3-0-1 record and are now 5-5-0-2 on the season. The Barracuda did earn a point in two games against San Diego this past weekend but are now in the midst of a three-game losing streak, the longest of the season thus far.
A look ahead…
The Barracuda return home this Friday as they look to avenge Tuesday’s loss against Bakersfield before hitting the road again for three straight. Friday is Star Wars Night as San Jose will wear specialty stormtrooper jerseys that will be auctioned off to help benefit Vet Tix. Friday is also Freebie Friday, which features 2-for-1 hot dogs, 2-for-1 tickets and $5 beers. After Friday, the Barracuda will travel to Ontario to face the Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday, November 26 and then head back to Texas for the last time to battle the Rampage at AT&T Center for a pair of games on December 3 and 4.
Broadcaster bites…
Troy Grosenick had received the nod between the pipes for the Barracuda for the last four-straight games, but his apparent right leg injury he suffered during the first period of Tuesday’s game in Bakersfield throws a wrench in San Jose’s plans. If Grosenick is out for a significant period, it will most likely be up to first-year American Hockey Leaguer Mantas Armalis to carry the load and rookie Jamie Murray who will need to be recalled from the Allen Americans (ECHL). Armalis had been splitting reps with Grosenick and is 2-1-0-1 on the year with a 3.22 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage through six games played. Jamie Murray signed with the San Jose Sharks in March after an illustrious career at NCAA Division III Babson College where went 62-20-9 over four seasons with a 1.75 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage. Through 10 career games with the Allen Americans, Murray is 3-6-2 with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. Only time will tell how long Grosenick will be out, but Murray will most likely be needed in some capacity.
