BARRACUDA SIGN YOUNG TO PTO, RELEASE PARIZEK

SAN JOSE - The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda), proud American Hockey League (@TheAHL) affiliate of the San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks), and General Manager Joe Will announced today that the club has signed Defenseman Gus Young (@GusYoung70) to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL (@ECHL). In addition, the team has released Forward Justin Parizek (@Parizek07) from his PTO.
Young skated in 132 games for the Worcester Sharks and San Jose Barracuda from 2014 to 2016, totaling 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists), 65 penalty minutes, and a plus-22 rating. Over his four year professional career, Young has appeared in 161 AHL games with Worcester, San Jose, Chicago, and San Antonio, accumulating 35 points (nine goals, 26 assists), 131 penalty minutes, and a plus-17 rating. In 28 games with the Everblades this season, the Dedham, Massachusetts native is T-seventh in the league in points (3+19=22) among defenseman and ranks T-fourth on Florida in points, first in assists, and fifth in plus/minus (+9).
Young, 26, was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round (#184 overall) in the 2009 NHL draft. Prior to turning pro, the six-foot-two, 201-pound defender played four seasons at Yale University where he won a National Championship in 2013.
